Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about buying, selling, fees and staying safe.
General
What is Online Livestock Markets?
A marketplace that connects people who want to sell livestock (cattle, goats, sheep, camels, poultry, pigs, pets and more) with buyers across Kenya. You find each other here, then meet and complete the deal directly.
Does the platform sell or deliver the animals?
No. Sellers own and deliver their animals. We provide the listing, bidding and introduction service.
Who can use it?
Anyone with an account: farmers and individual sellers, buyers who want to rear animals, and commercial users such as traders, butcheries and agents.
Buying
How do I show interest in an animal?
Open the listing, sign in and send an offer. For auction listings, place a bid instead. The seller is notified by email and SMS (without your name or contacts).
How do I get the seller's contact?
Go to "My offers", press Unlock, and pay KES 100 by M-Pesa. The seller's name and phone then appear on your portal.
When do I see where the animal is?
Before you pay you see the general area. After you pay the contact fee for that deal, "My offers" shows the pickup town, the seller's directions and a Google Maps link to the exact spot.
When should I pay the seller?
Only after you have seen the animal and are satisfied it is what you need. Never send money in advance to someone you have not met.
Selling
How do I list an animal?
Sign in, choose Sell livestock, pick a category, add details and a photo, and choose fixed price or auction.
How will I know someone is interested?
We email and SMS you the animal, the amount, the time and the buyer's area. Keep your email and phone active. To see the buyer's name and phone, pay KES 100 per offer.
Do I pay to list an animal?
Yes. Posting a listing costs KES 200, paid once by M-Pesa. The listing goes live as soon as the payment is confirmed. Agents on the monthly plan post without this fee.
What location do I give when selling?
Give the pickup town or area, and pin the animal on the map (use your current location, paste a Google Maps link, or click the map). Buyers only see the exact pin and directions after they pay the contact fee.
How do auctions work?
You set the starting bid, how long bidding runs, the minimum raise and an optional reserve. When time ends the highest bid wins automatically. The winner and you each unlock each other's contacts.
Your account
What account type should I choose?
Farmer / seller if you mainly sell your own animals; Commercial buyer / agent if you buy to resell; Buyer to rear if you want animals for your own farm. Sellers see the type of buyer who made an offer.
I forgot my password.
Use "Forgot password" on the Sign in page. We e-mail a link that works for one hour. If you are already signed in, use Change password on your dashboard.
Why was my account suspended or banned?
Usually because of reports of scamming or misleading listings. The reason is shown when you try to sign in. Write to us from Contact us if you think it is a mistake.
Fees & payments
How much does it cost?
KES 100 per transaction for each side, to see the other person's contact. The price of the animal is agreed between you and paid directly.
Is the fee refundable?
No, once the contact is shown. If a payment was taken but the contact did not appear, contact us with your M-Pesa message and we will fix it.
What is the agent plan?
A monthly plan for commercial users and agents: KES 150 for 30 days. While it is active you post listings with no listing fee. Pay again before it ends to add 30 more days.
Will the fee change?
It may. Any change is announced in advance on your dashboard and in Livestock News.
Safety
How do I avoid scams?
See the animal first, check health and movement papers, meet in a public place such as a market, and never pay "booking" or "transport" fees to a stranger before seeing the animal.
What if I think someone is scamming?
Open the offer, auction or listing and press "Report a problem" (Raise a concern). The administrators review it; the other person is not told that you reported them. Accounts found scamming are suspended or banned and their listings removed.
What are ratings for?
After an offer is accepted or an auction closes, the buyer rates the seller (animal as described, handover) and the seller rates the buyer (genuine order, paid as agreed). The average appears next to their name so others can trade with more confidence.
What is the consent form?
When you register you accept a short form: pay only after verifying the animal, no scamming, the platform is not responsible for negligence, and bans for cheating. Administrators can print it for you to sign.
Is the platform responsible if I lose money?
No. Deals are between users and the platform is not responsible for negligence or money paid outside the system. That is why you must verify before paying.
